Kitsap Maternity Photographer | A Family Session in Bremerton, Washington

A fun little maternity session with this growing family in-studio here in Bremerton. When I started to really consider taking photography seriously (about a month before I found out I was pregnant), my big dream was to niche down and only shoot couples and weddings. Families and newborns felt a little boring to me—I wasn’t inspired by family dynamics, and I also hadn’t quite figured out how to convince toddlers to sit still and smile at me (turns out you don’t really have to…if you just let them be, let their parents be, and casually put on your best peek-a-boo performance, they’ll usually smile eventually). But it’s true what people say about your brain being rewired after you have kids—and in my case, it was rewired creatively, too. Working with littles means giving up most of the control and leaning into what’s playing out in front of me, exactly as it is. Making time for lots of breaks—snack breaks, bathroom breaks, tantrum breaks—and feeling no rush or stress to get through them. Focusing less and less on getting the “right” pose, and more and more on how baby’s hand squeezes mom’s thumb, how dad makes mom laugh every time he makes that face at her, how snuggly toddlers get when they’re a little shy of the lady with the big camera. Photos I might have taken out of galleries a few years ago have become some of my favorites. Motherhood has changed me in ways I can’t entirely verbalize yet and I know a lot of you feel the same way, too. But I promise it looks good on you. So let me take your picture. ;)
